Spring Fling Weigh In #2

March 10th, 2010 | View Comments | Posted in Heather |

I’ve been thinking a lot about exercise lately. How much I do, or don’t do. How I feel guilty if I give myself a day off. How I used to give myself weeks…no MONTHS…off.

Last week I gained weight, a total slap in the face considering I was shredding and doing the 1/2 marathon training. Yeah, the scale really hurt my feelings. Seriously.

This week has been a struggle. Against injuries, the blahs, and a hectic schedule. I confess, I had to quit shredding, cause it was messing with my feet/shins/ankles something fierce. I’m bummed, cause I want the results.

So this week, I just stuck to my half training. I took a couple of days off. Like yesterday. I had to – not only was my body literally screaming at me to take a break, I actually was out all day visiting my new niece (I kind of love that excuse).

I wasn’t sure what taking a day off, especially the day before weigh in, would do to my results. But, thankfully, the scale went the right way. Just a smidge.

I’m down .7. I am still disappointed, but at least we’re heading the right way and I’m back to a normal BMI. I keep bouncing back and forth.

For some reason I thought doing such hard training, running especially, would cause the weight to fall off. And it’s not. I’m not sure if this is something I need to come to terms with, for the time being. For now, I’ll keep adjusting and hopefully find something that works!

Listen to your body! Sometimes it just needs a break. I think you're doing amazing, friend. Simply amazing.

Heather, I've been having the same struggles. I honestly expected the training to take the place of me actually having to think about or count what I was eating. It just isn't so. I'm actually quite disappointed Coach Joe isn't having the nutrition call until April. What's up with that? I need to know how much I'm supposed to be eating. Or at least I need someone to tell me. Or maybe I could just log my activity into WW. GAH. I'm lazy like that!

So congrats on your loss this week girl! It's a step in the right direction!!

Totally hear you on the Shred, too. I only did one day before I quit. I just couldn't hack it!! I'm impressed you lasted so long. Take care of you shins, skank :P MWAH!

a LOT of runners see gains while they are training…I have two recommendations for you. Not only is calories in calories out important, but the quality of the calories is also important! If your weight loss is stalled, try shifting where the food is coming from — increase your protein, especially after workouts (assuming you're not doing this already!) — aim for .5 to 1g of protein per pound of your ideal body weight. And the 2nd thing is definitely don't neglect the strength training part of the training plan or the stretching!

    congrats auntie heather!! :)

with my half training i expected something similar and it just didn't happen. mostly because i found it difficult finding the balance of giving myself enough fuel to complete the workouts, but go low enough on the calories to lose weight. good luck figuring it out!! :)
